Fort St. John

Fort St. John is known as “The Energetic City,” which reflects the large resource base of oil, natural gas, forestry and agriculture. Overlooking the Peace River, the town of Fort St John is located above the Peace River Valley, and serves as the capital of the Peace River district. The population of Fort St. John is over 21,400 but it services an area of approximately 70,000. The community is the hub of the Northeast with a cultural centre and library, theatre, and art space. The Fort St John Family Practice Associates Clinic is seeking a family physician to take over an existing, well managed, family practice in our privately owned medical clinic.

ABOUT OUR CLINIC
We are a youthful, vibrant clinic consisting of 5 practices and 6 staff housed in a modern, fully furnished, organized, well established medical office. Each physician has their own office individual exam rooms as well as a shared procedure room. We also have an in-house NP, LPN's, dietician, social worker, mental health clinicians, respiratory therapist, pharmacist and home care support who work alongside to provide team-based care together.

REMUNERATION
We are pleased to offer a $50,000 signing bonus to a new physician joining our clinic as an Associate and taking over the care of an upcoming vacant practice (Minimum 2 year commitment). Associates are paid $240.00/hour for a 7 hour day. The minimum monthly remuneration for regular clinic hours worked = $20,160 – $26,880. Physicians are asked to work 3-4 days a week in clinic with the flexibility to see patients in-person and some virtually. Physicians are also paid an extra 1.5 hours ($360.00) each weekday to compensate for admin related tasks equating to an additional $7200.00/month, paid on top of regular clinic hours worked. Remuneration is TAKE-HOME. There is no overhead payable or split due, with no expenses deducted from physicians

Associates are paid consistently via direct deposit every 2 weeks and are provided 8 weeks vacation time per year plus 2 additional weeks for CME if needed.

There is also opportunity to generate extra revenue through services outside the clinic such as ER, OR, Prenatal clinic, etc. This is all billed privately and Associates keep 100% of those earnings.

We are on an alternate payment model, namely Population Based Funding.

You may be eligible for additional remuneration including recruiting and relocation funding.

ABOUT FORT ST JOHN
With a population of 23,000 and growing Fort St. John is the largest city in Northeastern BC with daily flights to Vancouver and Calgary.

You can enjoy a wide variety of activities from camping, hiking and lakeside fun in the summer, to sledding, ice fishing, and cross-country skiing in the winter.

The city supports a robust theatre and arts community along with an indoor speed skating track, running track, soccer field, three hockey rinks, indoor pool and curling rink.

Fort St. John has a newly built hospital and home care facility, 4 minutes from the clinic. We have in-town specialists including general surgery, internal medicine, gynecology and obstetrics, psychiatry, pediatrics as well as a visiting specialist clinic including dermatology, ophthalmology, and rheumatology. Other specialists are also available within the region of Northern BC

Qualifications:
  • Eligible for The College of Family Physicians of Canada Cert. (CCFP)
  • Doctorate in Medicine
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) - Desired Emergency Experience - Desired Obstetric Experience - Desired Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PAL) - Desired Canadian College of Family Practitioners (CCFP) - Desired Current College of Physicians of BC (CPSBC) License - Provisional or Full.

Hours of work: Clinic: 7 hours/day, 3-4 days/week

RSA Incentives

Recruitment Incentive (provided by Northern Health): $20,000 (minimum 1 year commitment)

Additional Recruitment Incentive (provided by the Clinic): $50,000 (Minimum 2 year commitment)

Retention Flat Fee: $33,628.80

Retention Premium: 21.70%

Relocation Funding: $9,000 - $15,000

The Fort St. John Hospital has 44 Acute Care beds and 124 residential beds and is equipped to handle 22,000 ER visits per year. Some more highlights about the hospital:
• Endoscopy suite, 2 state-of-the-art operating rooms,
plus a procedure room
• Ambulatory clinics including Cancer and Hemodialysis
• Medical and Surgical inpatient rooms (40 beds)
• 3 Intensive care units
• Minor surgeries
• 7 single Maternity rooms for Labour, Delivery, and Post-Partum
Fort St. John also has the Health Unit and Primary Care Clinic which serve the community.
