Practice Details:

We are seeking an Emergency Medicine specialist (CCFP-EM or RCPSC) to join the medical staff in beautiful Smithers, British Columbia. This opportunity is flexible and will be ideal for someone willing to commit to 0.5 - 1.0 FTE, which is approximately 7-14 shifts per month.

The Emergency Department is currently staffed by a strong group of physicians who also provide additional services in primary care, anesthesia, surgery, OAT, long term care, oncology and more. Shifts are currently scheduled as 08:00-19:00 or 18:00-08:30, however the group will explore moving to 8-hour shifts.

Bulkley Valley District Hospital is a 24-bed acute care facility providing emergency/outpatient, medical, surgical, maternity, and palliative care services, and has one psychiatric observation unit. The facility has approximately 13,600 emergency visits and supports home and community care services, a strong community cancer clinic, and a diverse visiting specialist/surgeon program. It also offers laboratory and radiology (x-ray, mammography, ultrasound, CT scanning), and respiratory therapist services.

Qualifications:
  • Doctorate in Medicine
  • Certificant of College of Family Physicians of Canada-Emerg Med (CCFP-EM)
  • Or
  • Eligible for Fellowship with the Royal College of Surgeons of Canada (FRCSC)
  • Emergency experience
