The main industries in Fort St. James are forestry, mining and tourism. The town is also a scenic gateway to a 300 km network of lakes and rivers. Practice Details:

We invite you to join our well established family practice in Fort. St. James. Northern Health is seeking a Family Physician to fill a 0.50 FTE position.

You will be joining a group of Family Physicians and Nurse Practitioners working in an Alternative Payment Plan. This is a shared care practice model, providing primary care services to the 5000 patient population in the communities of Fort St. James, Nak’azdli Whut’en, Tl’azt’en Nation and Binche Whut’en.

The Primary Care Centre at the new Fort St. James Hospital and Health Centre is a comprehensive healthcare facility providing a wide range of healthcare services. It offers primary care, chronic disease management, walk-in clinic services, pre and postnatal care, immunizations, child health clinics, wound care, and more. The centre also provides mental health and addictions support, social work services, and virtual care options such as physiotherapy, occupational therapy, and psychiatry. They have outreach programs for First Nations communities and offer assistance with forms, housing applications, food security, and navigating healthcare systems.

Stuart Lake Hospital:

The brand-new Fort St. James Hospital and Health Centre officially opened on January 20th. Triple the size of the previous Stuart Lake Hospital, (approximately 6,300 square feet), the new hospital will model excellence in health care, incorporating modern best practices and standards, as well as bringing multiple health services under one roof. The outstanding healthcare team is focused on the healing environment and providing culturally safe care for residents of Fort St. James, surrounding areas, and local Indigenous communities.

The new hospital features:
• 27 beds: 18 community care and 9 acute care
• An emergency department with two treatment rooms, a trauma bay, and a covered ambulance bay
• Primary Care Centre
• Expanded laboratory and diagnostic imaging.
• An in-house Spiritual Space and Gathering Space.
• Larger space for palliative care, including a palliative care lounge and garden
• Culturally and medicinally significant landscaping with outdoor spaces and gardens developed in collaboration with local Indigenous Elders and plant experts.
