Kitimat
Set between ocean, mountains, and lush river valleys, Kitimat is a modern coastal community located along the Douglas Channel in northwestern British Columbia. Purpose‑built in the 1950s, it remains one of BC’s youngest communities and is surrounded by stunning rainforest, extensive greenbelt areas, and easy access to both river and ocean recreation. Kitimat has a population of approximately 8,200–8,600 residents.
Kitimat offers a high standard of living, supported by a strong industrial tax base and a robust regional economy. Residents enjoy a wide range of indoor and outdoor amenities, including an aquatic centre, two ice arenas, fitness facilities, parks, golf, and extensive hiking trails. Outdoor enthusiasts have access to world‑class river and ocean fishing, backcountry cabins, coastal parks, winter sports, and natural hot springs.
Kitimat’s compact size means commute times are short, allowing for a balanced lifestyle with more time for family, recreation, and community involvement. The community is known for its friendly atmosphere, well‑kept neighbourhoods, and strong sense of belonging among residents.
