Practice Details:

Northern Health is urgently seeking locum physicians to work in the Chetwynd Hospital & Health Centre Emergency Department in Chetwynd, British Columbia. Locums have the option of covering clinic, and/or ER. ER shifts are 24 hours (0800-0800). You can expect to see an average of 20 patients in a 24-hour shift. Must have Current, formal ER practice*.

The clinic features Inter-Professional Teams (IPT) including Mental Health & Addictions, Community Nursing and Public Health; with touch-down space for visiting specialties such as Occupational Therapy, Respiratory Therapy, etc. This new Primary Care model focuses on patient-centred care that is accessible, coordinated, comprehensive and continuous. Quality improvement and patient safety are key areas of focus. The Chetwynd Hospital has 7 long-term beds and 5 acute care beds. Services include 24/7 Emergency, Medical Inpatient, Palliative Care, and Respiratory Therapy Chetwynd (population 3,100) is located on the eastern slope of the Rocky Mountains and is a transportation hub of the Peace River Region. The main local industries include oil and gas, coal, forestry and ranching. Chetwynd is known for the stunning chainsaw carvings displayed throughout the town and parks. Qualifications:
  • Eligible for The College of Family Physicians of Canada Cert. (CCFP)
  • Doctorate in Medicine
  • Certificant of College of Family Physicians of Canada (CCFP)

Estimated Gross Income

Guaranteed daily rate $1,595/24 hour shift through RGPLP.


RSA Incentives

Guaranteed daily rate $1,595/24 hour shift through RGPLP.

Travel, accommodation, and car rental covered through RGPLP.

Travel stipend: $250 - $1,500 based on time. Maximum $1,500 per round trip, through RGPLP.

It contains 12 exam rooms, office space, 1 procedure CPR room with AED. Services provided by physicians, nurse practitioners, nurses and support staff in the clinic include:
• Public health nursing
• Home and community nursing
• Home Support
• Aboriginal Liaison
• Mental Health and Addictions
In addition, specialized services are offered in the clinic on a weekly basis, including:
• Dental
• Dietitian
