Virtual/Remote

To provide virtual services in Northern Health, providers do not need to be located within Northern Health. Preference will be given to providers located within British Columbia, but consideration will be given to providers from Alberta, especially those that have worked in the Northern Health region.

This service is seeking prescribers who are comfortable with virtual OAT prescribing and/or Pharmaceutical
Alternatives prescribing
The Northern Health Virtual Substance Use Stream
● Provides culturally safe and trauma informed support to people who use substances living in the North
including: assessment, nursing interventions, Opioid Agonist Therapy, and pharmaceutical alternatives
to toxic street supply
● Makes appropriate and timely connections to local substance use supports, where available
● Operates in partnership with the Northern Health Virtual Primary & Community Care Clinic
● Uses phone and video appointments to reach patients
● Offers the opportunity for providers to work virtually
Remuneration and scheduling
Clinic times will be available 7 days a week in the afternoons. The 7-day-a-week model will be developed over
time and is based on provider availability.

Qualifications:
  • Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Canada (FRCPC)
  • Doctorate in Medicine
Call Schedule:

Hours of work: No Details
On call requirements: Flexible shift options ranging from 2 to 4 hours. Providers are not required to complete a specific number of shifts, but maintaining at least one shift per month is recommended to stay proficient with the technology

2024 – 2025 Sessional Range: $165.77 to $190.77 (plus rural retention based on the community where the provider resides)


RSA Incentives

Physicians will be remunerated based on the family practice hourly sessional rate through a group service
contract. Scheduling of providers will be managed through ByteBloc. Shifts are scheduled in 4-hour blocks,
but opportunities to participate in a routinized schedule are also available. Consideration will need to be
made for providers currently on existing service contracts with Northern Health.
● 2024 – 2025 Sessional Range: $165.77 to $190.77 (plus rural retention based on the community where
the provider resides)
● Flexible shift options ranging from 2 to 4 hours. Providers are not required to complete a specific number of
shifts, but maintaining at least one shift per month is recommended to stay proficient with the technology.
● Providers can work from the comfort of their own home, supported virtually by an interdisciplinary team
including administrative staff, nurses, and allied health professionals
